Norwegian coast

Havila Voyages

The Bergen–Kirkenes coastal route, on the coast’s most environmentally friendly ships.

Who this line suits

Havila sails the same Norwegian coastal route as the Coastal Express, on four ships delivered between 2021 and 2023 — the newest vessels working this coastline.

Four sister ships, described by the line as a class. Capella, Castor, Polaris and Pollux share a specification, so the choice between them is about dates rather than about the ship. We hold fifteen cabin grades across the fleet.

Havila does not publish an Australian dollar fare, so you will not find a price on this page. We would rather send you a real number for your dates than print one we cannot stand behind. Ask, and we will quote it in Australian dollars.

Worth a look

12 days · Bergen to Kirkenes and back · 34 ports

The Norwegian coast at its quietest. Same 34 ports every departure — you’re choosing when, not which.

The ships

The Havila Voyages ships we sell in Australia

Havila Voyages publishes its ships as a class rather than individually, and we sell them the same way — the choice is about where and when you sail, not which hull you are on. The departures board below names the ship on every sailing, so you can see which hull is on your dates before you ask.

Fares change with date, cabin and availability — enquire and we’ll quote you.

The route

One coastal route, 34 ports, twelve days

Bergen north to Kirkenes and back again — the working coastal route that has connected these communities for more than a century. Havila Voyages publishes the call order day by day, and it is printed on the ships’ own hulls: Bergen–Kirkenes–Bergen.

Geiranger and Hjørundfjord carry an asterisk in Havila Voyages’s own schedule. The line does not say what it means and we have asked — on the balance of the route it reads as a seasonal call, so treat these two as not guaranteed on every departure and check with Rahul if either is the reason you are going.

Departures

Every Havila Voyages departure, and which ship sails it

The four sister ships work one continuous rotation, so the ship is a column here rather than a choice — pick your dates and the board tells you which hull you are on. Open a month to see it.

432 departures still to sail of 664 in the schedule, which runs to 30 December 2029. Every one is the same Bergen ⇄ Kirkenes round voyage, 11 nights, and the four sister ships rotate through it — so the choice is your dates, not your hull. It is the line’s published plan rather than live availability, and we confirm both the ship and the space when you enquire.

The four ships

The sister ships, each one photographed and named

Four sisters built to the same Havyard 923 design and working one rotation between them. Every photograph here was checked against the ship’s own name lettering — on the bow, and on the stern above her home port of Fosnavåg — so each hull below is the hull you are looking at.

The northern lights

Sailing under the aurora

The coastal route runs north of the Arctic Circle for five of its twelve days, in the dark months with the ship’s decks open all night. These are Havila’s own photographs, taken from their ships on this route — not stock, and not somewhere else that looks similar.

The aurora is weather and solar activity, not a scheduled event — nobody can promise it. What the route can promise is the latitude and the dark, for several nights running.
