The ship

About MS Vesterålen

"Freshly refurbished in 2025, MS Vesterålen is our classic coastal ship offering you a more intimate way to sail Norway's historic route, with space for just 274 guests." — the portal's own description, verbatim.

THE FLEET OUTLIER, and the one ship that corroborates its own capacity. Built 1983 — a decade older than any other — at 6,261 gross tons it is barely half the size of the 11,000-ton ships and a third of MS Trollfjord's 16,140.nnIts capacity is stated twice, independently, and the two agree. The fleet index says ”space for just 274 guests”; the specification table says ”Beds: 274”. On this ship, beds and guests are the same number — the only place in the fleet where that can be checked. It is corroboration for Vesterålen, not a licence to read every other ship's bed count as a guest count.nnAlso the only ship whose shipyard carries no country marker at all — `Kaarbø Mek. Verk.`, where every other entry appends `(N)`, `(D)`, `(Norway)` or `(Germany)`.
