From Brisbane

What a Brisbane departure actually looks like

Flights are not in the price, on purpose

Our Lapland packages are land-only. International flights are the single largest cost of reaching Finnish Lapland from Australia, so we keep them visible rather than buried in a headline price. Tell us the package you like and we build the flights from Brisbane, the stopovers and the nights either side around it.

How many nights you actually need

Five nights if you are staying in one place, six if you are splitting across two. For an Australian we would not go below five at all — you have flown a very long way, and a four-night stay means you spend most of it arriving, leaving, or in a vehicle.

The months that are actually different

February is the best all-round balance — the snow is established, every activity is running, and the nights are still properly dark. March is the pick for families and anyone flying in from Australia. December is Santa and the festive atmosphere, and it is also the busiest, the priciest and the darkest.

I've done this trip myself, and the ice floating is what I mention first — you're in a survival suit, lying back in water the ship has just broken open, and there's nothing else on the itinerary remotely like it.

Before you enquire

The questions we get asked most

01 Are flights from Brisbane included in your Lapland packages?

No. Our Lapland packages are land-only, and international flights are the single largest cost of reaching Finnish Lapland from Australia — so we keep them visible rather than buried in a headline price. We build the flights from Brisbane, the stopovers and the nights either side around whichever package you choose, on request.

02 When should we go to Lapland?

February or March, unless Christmas itself is the reason you’re going. December is Santa and the festive atmosphere, and it is also the busiest, the priciest and the darkest — around two and a half hours of daylight in Rovaniemi. January brings the deepest cold and long, dark aurora windows, but it is the hardest month physically, with about four hours of light. February is the best all-round balance: the snow is established, every activity is running, you get around eight hours of daylight and the nights are still properly dark. March is my pick for families, active travellers and anyone flying in from Australia — deep snow, milder air, about twelve hours of light, and evenings still dark enough for the lights.

03 How many nights do we need in Lapland?

Five nights if you are staying in one place, six if you are splitting across two. That is not padding — it is what it takes to fit in the activities people come for, absorb the transfers between them, and still have a stay rather than a schedule. For an Australian I would not go below five nights at all. You have flown a very long way, and a four-night Lapland stay means you spend most of it either arriving, leaving, or in a vehicle.

04 Will we definitely see the Northern Lights?

No — and be wary of anyone who says otherwise. The aurora is a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. What these packages give you is the best odds we can build: nights at a high, dark latitude and guided activities led by the properties’ own aurora guides.

05 Are the prices per person or per couple?

Lapland package prices are per person, twin-share, in Australian dollars, and land-only. Each package on this page states its own basis directly under its price — how many people it covers, how many nights, and what is included. Read that line with the figure; it is part of the price.

06 What if none of these packages quite fits?

Then we build the one that does. A custom Lapland trip — your towns, your nights, your pace, the properties you want — is what this agency does best; it is the heart of what we do, not a consolation prize. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll design it around you, with the same honest pricing and no planning left to you.

About these prices. Each “from” figure is the lowest priced tier of that package on the basis printed with it — which differs between packages, so read the two together. Package prices are in Australian dollars, and no figure on this page is converted from another currency: where a supplier or a government publishes in its own currency, we show theirs, labelled. Package prices are land arrangements only and do not include airfares. Full inclusions, every tier and the complete terms are on each package’s own page. Availability is confirmed at the time of enquiry. Rates are quoted and billed in Australian dollars. Mykish Travels is IATA accredited and CLIA member.

One honest line: the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and can’t be guaranteed — they depend on solar activity and cloud cover on the night. What we can promise is the planning: the right place, the right nights, and a stay built to give you the best possible chance.

Next step

Tell us which one, and we’ll build the rest around it
