Why I recommend it
Cinnamon Velifushi earns its keep on two things most Maldives resorts don’t combine: a genuinely accessible price point, and a house dive centre sitting on one of the best current-dive stretches in the country. Vaavu Atoll’s eastern barrier is where serious divers go for hammerhead sharks and big pelagic fish, not the manta/whale-shark circuit — a different, less-crowded story to tell a diving-curious client than the usual Baa Atoll pitch. It’s also properly built for families, not just tolerant of them: both beach villa categories are sized and priced for a parent-plus-kid booking, not an afterthought bolted onto a couples resort.
Best for
The honest fit
Velifushi is best taken on the two things it genuinely combines: an accessible price point, and a house dive centre — Dive & Sail, a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre — sitting in the middle of Vaavu Atoll’s eastern barrier, the channel-diving stretch where serious divers come for hammerheads and big pelagics rather than the crowded manta circuit. It’s properly built for families too: a kids’ club and play area, both beach categories sized for a parent-plus-kid booking, and a board ladder that runs from Bed & Breakfast to Premium All-Inclusive. Most of the five villa categories run 65–100 m² without a private pool — the flagship Water Suite is the one with its own plunge pool — so the spend here goes into the diving, the table and the atoll rather than into palatial footprints. Couples set on an adults-only sanctuary, a pool on every villa, or Baa-style manta aggregations are exactly who we’d steer to other portfolio islands instead.

Planning your trip
Return transfers are included in every Mykish package. We confirm the transfer basis on your quote.
Cinnamon Velifushi sits on the island of Aarah, on the eastern barrier of Vaavu Atoll (also known by the older name Felidhoo/Felidu Atoll) — one of the Maldives’ least-populated atolls, roughly 76km south of Malé. Transfer options and timing are covered in the Australian traveller guide above.
From Australia, Cinnamon Velifushi connects via one of the major Malé gateways — Singapore Airlines via Singapore (SIN), Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur (KUL), SriLankan Airlines via Colombo (CMB), or Emirates via Dubai (DXB).
Once in Malé, the resort sits on Vaavu Atoll, roughly 76km south — reached by speedboat (~75 minutes, figure under confirmation) as the standard transfer, with an optional faster seaplane (~25-30 minutes) available as a paid upgrade in the resort’s own promotions.
All pricing on this page and in any quote is in AUD; any currency switcher elsewhere on the site is indicative only.
Consultant tip
Consultant tip: because Vaavu Atoll sells both a standard speedboat transfer and a faster paid seaplane upgrade, it’s worth asking your consultant which one suits your itinerary — the seaplane only flies in daylight and adds a premium, while the speedboat runs longer hours. We’ll confirm the exact option and cost at the time of quoting.

Questions
Fly into Malé via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo or Dubai, then transfer on to Vaavu Atoll — the resort's island (Aarah) sits roughly 76km south of Malé.
Yes — it's genuinely family-oriented, not just family-tolerant: a kids' club, a children's play area, and both beach-based villa categories explicitly accommodate a child or infant alongside adults. The resort has also run 'kids under 12 stay & dine free' offers. It is not an adults-only island.
The official site lists maximum occupancy for all three overwater categories in adults only, with no child or infant capacity — unlike the two beach categories. Speak to your consultant to confirm current family-booking options for the water villas.
Five structural categories, two beach and three overwater. Superior Beach Loft (79m², families, duplex layout) and Beach Bungalow (65m², families, ground floor) are the beachfront options. Water Bungalow (100m²) is the entry overwater category with direct lagoon access. Sunset Water Bungalow with Jacuzzi (100m², sunset-facing) adds a private plunge pool on the deck and sits on the reef edge for step-off snorkelling. Water Suite with Pool (208m²) is the flagship — more than double the footprint, with its own plunge pool and panoramic views.
Buffet meals plus house-brand spirits and cocktails at the standard All-Inclusive tier; Premium All-Inclusive typically adds a Marlin restaurant dinner, a beach dinner, excursions and a spa treatment.
Yes. Dive & Sail is the resort's on-site PADI 5-Star Dive Centre, and Vaavu Atoll is known specifically for channel diving — big pelagic fish life and hammerhead shark sightings at named sites like Fotteyo Kandu and Miyaru Kandu, rather than a manta or whale-shark aggregation site. For house-reef snorkelling, the Sunset Water Bungalow category sits directly on the reef edge for step-off access.
No advance visa is required. The Maldives grants a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival to all nationalities, including Australians, provided you hold a passport valid for 6+ months beyond your stay, proof of onward or return travel, confirmed accommodation, and sufficient funds for your visit.
