Why I recommend it
Meeru suits families and first-time Maldives travellers wanting “simply Maldives” without a boutique price tag — its own materials lean into “exceptional value,” and at 284 rooms there’s enough scale to genuinely split a multi-generation group between the family side and the dedicated 18+ zone on the same island. The in-lagoon Coral Garden conservation project is a genuinely accessible snorkel option that doesn’t need a boat, even though the main house reef does.
Best for
The honest fit
Meeru is the island for travellers who want “simply Maldives” at honest value: a genuinely big island — 1.2 km long, 284 rooms, forty years of hospitality — that uses its size well, splitting into a family side and a dedicated 18+ side so a multi-generation group and a honeymooning couple both get the version of the island they came for. Villas are warm, wooden and honestly sized at 50–86 m²; the spend here goes into the lagoon, the table and the sheer range of things to do rather than into designer styling. The snorkelling rhythm is worth knowing going in: the in-lagoon Coral Garden gives you live coral and fish straight off the beach, while the main house reef is reached by the complimentary snorkelling boat — a short ride that quickly becomes part of the day. Full Board is the baseline (every rate includes three meals), with the All-Inclusive Dine Around package as the upgrade that opens the à-la-carte restaurants and the bars.

Time on the island
Duniye Spa operates from both a land-based location and an overwater location. General recreation includes billiards, indoor gym, chess, beach volleyball and table tennis.

An in-lagoon coral conservation project you can snorkel without a boat — guided activities run by designated team members over the live coral gardens, built to strengthen the reef system for generations to come.

Guided diving and snorkelling boat trips with a complete PADI instructional programme, plus equipment sales, rentals and repairs on-island.
Catamarans, kayaks, windsurf boards, SUP boards, waterski, wakeboards, fun tube and jet ski — rental and instructional lessons.

Two settings on one island — a land spa in the gardens and an overwater spa above the lagoon.
A 9-hole pitch ’n’ putt course, golf driving range, padel and lighted tennis courts, badminton, pétanque, football grounds, bicycles, a fitness centre and two fresh-water pools — the Dhoni Bar pool with a children’s wading pool and the adults-only (18+) Vilu Pool.

Koamas Kids’ Playroom for ages 3–12 next to the Meeru Museum, a children’s playground by the Dhoni Bar pool, and a nightly entertainment programme from Boduberu dance to movie nights and the Starlight Cinema on the beach.

Sustainability
Meeru publishes its environmental work in its own fact sheet: the Meeru Coral Garden is an in-lagoon coral conservation project where dedicated team members run guided snorkel activities over the live coral gardens — an effort built to educate guests and increase the resilience of the coral reef system, which doubles as the island’s boat-free snorkelling spot. Meeru is also listed as a collaborator of Parley for the Oceans’ Maldives programme (as “Meeru Island Resort & Spa” on the Parley Maldives collaborators list, checked July 2026).

Consultant tip
Consultant tip: because Meeru genuinely splits into a family side and an 18+ side, tell us up front if your group spans both — we can position rooms so a multi-generation family and a honeymooning couple can share the one island comfortably.
