Why I recommend it

Why we recommend it

Jawakara suits multi-generation families wanting real scale and real facilities — two islands joined by a 650m bridge, a golf course, dedicated Jawa Kids Club and Jawa Teen Club, and family villas up to three bedrooms. It’s a newer build (opened October 2023), so the infrastructure is genuinely current. Note: this is NOT the former Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa — that’s an unrelated property in a different atoll. Two islands means two distinct settings under one booking: Mabin is the larger island with more open space for walking or bicycle rides between facilities, while Dheru is the more compact, quieter sibling — useful for a family group where grandparents want Dheru’s calm and teenagers want Mabin’s golf course and sports courts.

The honest fit

Jawakara is best understood as the big, family-first build of our Lhaviyani range: two islands joined by a 650-metre bridge, 290 villas up to three bedrooms, a golf course, padel, pickleball and tennis, and dedicated Jawa Kids and Jawa Teen clubs — all opened in October 2023, so the infrastructure is genuinely current. Two islands means two settings under one booking: Mabin brings the scale, the golf and the buzz, while Dheru is the compact, quieter sibling — useful when grandparents want calm and teenagers want the action. The snorkelling here runs as guided boat trips out to the reef rather than off the sand, and the island’s reward is space and facilities rather than a marquee house reef — couples after a small, hushed adults-only island or step-off-the-deck snorkelling will be happier on other portfolio islands, and we’ll point you straight to them.

Experiences & wellness

Sulha Spa operates overwater on Mabin, with a presence on Dheru too. Recreation spans a 9-hole/driving-range golf course, football, padel, tennis, pickleball, and fitness centres on both islands.

In-villa amenities, Mabin: every villa comes with a king-size bed, air-conditioning, an overhead ceiling fan, a personal safe, a sitting area, wooden flooring, wardrobes, a vanity, a workspace with charging stations, and a private sundeck furnished with chaise lounges, a table and chairs — the same base specification across all four Mabin villa categories.

Sulha Spa, in more detail: based on Mabin with a presence on Dheru too, the spa runs a holistic wellness programme spanning Ayurveda therapy, remedial and healing treatments, yoga and meditation, and beauty and salon services, delivered by therapists trained in alternative therapy techniques using natural, organic skincare.

The Games Room covers table tennis, billiards, air hockey, Pac-Man, pinball, board games and chess — a wet-weather or evening option alongside the pools and sports courts. Evening entertainment includes a traditional BoduBeru cultural dance show, live music, DJ disco nights and diver video screenings, plus Maldivian culture and history introductions and themed events through the week.

On-island facilities: a fully equipped medical clinic with on-call staff, and a boutique stocking swimwear, sportswear, Jawakara-branded merchandise, books, music, artwork, crafts and everyday sundries.

Sulha Spa, Jawakara Islands Maldives

Mabin’s sports and pool facilities, in full: two freshwater infinity pools overlooking the ocean, a dedicated kids’ pool, artificial-turf football/futsal courts, padel tennis, tennis and badminton courts, a fitness centre, a volleyball court and the resort’s 9-hole/driving-range golf course — built around the island’s white sand beach, lagoon and house reef.

The villas, in more detail: Mabin Beach Villas (78m²) sit a few steps from the beach and lagoon, close to the island’s main facilities. Mabin Beach Pool Villas (101m²) add a private infinity pool at the same beachfront position. Mabin Three Bedroom Villas (197m²) are a beachfront family layout with three separate bedrooms — built for larger groups rather than a couple. Mabin Water Pool Villas (107m²) are suspended over the lagoon on stilts, each with its own private infinity pool and direct steps into the water; unlike many overwater categories in the Maldives, these accept children with no age restriction. Dheru mirrors the same four-tier structure — Beach Villas, Beach Pool Villas, Three Bedroom Villas (285m², the largest family villa on either island) and Water Pool Villas (107m²) — across its smaller, 88-villa footprint.

Board basis: Jawakara offers Bed & Breakfast, Half Board, Full Board and a Premium Dine Around All-Inclusive tier — the dine-around structure means guests on the top tier can choose across Saima and Vela (and the wider dining line-up, availability depending) rather than being tied to a single restaurant each night, one of the more flexible all-inclusive structures Mykish offers on a two-island Maldives property.

On Mabin, the three snack/pool bars — Bonthi, Thila and Nika — each carry an elegant indoor area alongside an al fresco terrace looking over the lagoon; on Dheru, the Umi Bar carries the equivalent ocean-view role.

Divers get their own screening slot in the evening entertainment line-up too, alongside the BoduBeru show and live music.

Both islands run their own fitness centre, so training or gym access never requires the bridge crossing.

Sulha Spa

Overwater on Mabin with a presence on Dheru — Asian massage techniques with chemical-free, organic products.

Golf & courts

Nine-hole golf course with driving range, plus football, padel, tennis and pickleball, with fitness centres on both islands.

Jawa Kids & Jawa Teen

Daily organised activities for ages 4–17, kids’ pools, play areas and a climbing wall on Mabin.

On and under the water

Dive centre with its own dhoni jetty, guided house-reef boat snorkels, watersports hut, and group or private speedboat excursions.

Jawakara sits in Lhaviyani Atoll, across two islands (Mabin and Dheru) joined by a 650m bridge over the house reef.

Jawakara opened in October 2023, so its infrastructure — the 650m bridge linking Mabin and Dheru, the golf course, both kids’ clubs and every villa category — is genuinely current rather than an older build carrying renovations. Note: Jawakara is not the former Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, an unrelated property in a different atoll that some travel sites still confuse it with.

Lhaviyani Atoll sits north of Malé, and Jawakara’s own two-island footprint is one of the larger single-resort layouts Mykish sells in the region — 290 villas is a genuinely large number for one booking, closer in scale to a small township than a boutique island. The 650m bridge that joins Mabin and Dheru runs directly over the house reef, which the resort uses as a scenic walking or cycling route between the two islands rather than purely a service connection. Guided boat trips reach the wider house reef for snorkelling; this isn’t a walk-straight-off-the-beach reef property in the way some of Mykish’s smaller single-island resorts are.

The two kids’ clubs — Kuda Mas on Mabin and a second club on Dheru — run separately from the Games Room and the Teen Club, giving the resort three distinct age-banded activity spaces rather than a single catch-all kids’ area. That structure is part of why Mykish points multi-generation family groups here ahead of most other Maldives properties in the portfolio.

The medical clinic and boutique both sit on Mabin, reachable from Dheru via the connecting bridge.

From Australia, Jawakara connects via the major Malé gateways, then either a ~35-40 minute seaplane or a domestic-flight-plus-speedboat option.

From Australia, Jawakara connects via one of the major Malé gateways — Singapore Airlines via Singapore (SIN), Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur (KUL), SriLankan Airlines via Colombo (CMB), or Emirates via Dubai (DXB) — then either a seaplane (roughly 35–40 minutes) or a domestic flight plus a short speedboat transfer, depending on which option the resort has available for the travel dates. Mykish confirms the current transfer option and timing at the time of quoting, since Jawakara offers both rather than a single fixed transfer mode. All pricing on this page and in any quote is in AUD; any currency switcher elsewhere on the site is indicative only.

Mykish reconfirms current villa inventory, dining hours and the live transfer option (seaplane or domestic-plus-speedboat) directly with Jawakara before any quote is issued.

Consultant tip

Consultant tip: with two islands and 290 villas, tell us which island (Mabin or Dheru) and which villa tier matters most for your group.

Families travelling three generations deep tend to do best on Mabin, where the Three Bedroom Villas, both kids’ clubs and the golf course sit within a short walk of each other; couples or smaller groups wanting a quieter base sometimes prefer Dheru’s more compact footprint, with Vela restaurant and the island’s own pool and bar as the social hub.

Talk to Rahul about Jawakara Islands Maldives

As a direct-contract partner, Mykish books Jawakara at rates the public can’t access online, with on-ground support if anything needs sorting during the stay, and seasonal free upgrades when available — never guaranteed, always confirmed at the time of booking.

With 290 villas across two islands and four villa tiers per island, Mykish’s role is largely matching the right combination to the group — Mabin or Dheru, beach or water, and which of the family or three-bedroom categories fits the party size — before the quote goes out, rather than leaving that choice to a generic booking form.

Because Jawakara opened in October 2023, most of what a returning guest would flag as ‘newer-build wear’ simply hasn’t had time to accumulate — furniture, decking and pool tiling across both islands are still close to original condition, which matters more on a property this size than it would on a smaller island with fewer villas to maintain.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do we get to Jawakara from Australia?

Fly into Malé, then choose either a ~35-40 minute seaplane transfer, or a domestic flight to Madivaru Airport followed by a speedboat leg.

Is Jawakara good for families?

Yes — Jawakara is explicitly family-first, with Jawa Kids Club and a separate Jawa Teen Club, family villas up to three bedrooms, a golf course, and multi-sport facilities.

What's the layout of the resort?

Two islands — Mabin (202 villas, family-first) and Dheru (88 villas) — joined by a 650m overwater bridge.

Was Jawakara previously called Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa?

No — Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa is a separate, unrelated resort in Raa Atoll. Jawakara opened as a brand-new Crown & Champa build in October 2023.

What meal plans does Jawakara offer?

Bed & Breakfast, Half Board, Full Board, and a Premium All-Inclusive package.

Can we dive or snorkel at Jawakara?

Yes — Prodivers runs a 5-star PADI training centre on-site, and the resort offers free snorkel equipment plus twice-daily guided boat trips to the house reef.

Do Australians need a visa for the Maldives?

No advance visa is required. The Maldives grants a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival to all nationalities, including Australians, provided you hold a passport valid for 6+ months beyond your stay, proof of onward or return travel, confirmed accommodation, and sufficient funds for your visit. (Source: Maldives Immigration.)

Why book Jawakara through Mykish instead of directly?

We hold a direct contract, so we can get better rates than the public price, on-ground support during the stay, and seasonal upgrades when available.

What dining venues does Jawakara have, in full?

Eleven restaurants and bars across the two islands: Vela and Saima (the main all-day restaurants, one per island), Aila, Umi (overwater, mid-bridge, Asian Pacific), Molo (Mediterranean), Hideout, and the bars — Nika, Bonthi, Molo Bar, Fore Bar, Thila Bar.

What's included in the Games Room and evening entertainment at Jawakara?

The Games Room covers table tennis, billiards, air hockey, Pac-Man, pinball, board games and chess. Evening entertainment includes a traditional BoduBeru cultural dance show, live music, DJ disco nights, diver video screenings and Maldivian culture introductions through the week.

Is Jawakara suitable for large family groups?

Yes — it was purpose-built for multi-generation groups, with Three Bedroom Villas on both islands, two kids' clubs (Kuda Mas on Mabin), a Teen Club, and villas that accept children in every category including the overwater Water Pool Villas.

Which island should we choose — Mabin or Dheru?

Mabin is the larger island (202 villas across four tiers) with the golf course, the Games Room and Kuda Mas Kids Club; Dheru is the smaller, quieter sibling (88 villas, the same four tiers at slightly different sizes) connected by a 650m bridge. Mykish asks which matters more to your group — scale and activity, or a quieter footprint — before quoting.

Do Jawakara's overwater villas accept children?

Yes — both the Mabin and Dheru Water Pool Villas accept children with no age restriction, which is unusual for an overwater category in the Maldives; most Mykish properties reserve water villas for adults or older children only.

What spa treatments does Sulha Spa offer at Jawakara?

Ayurveda therapy, remedial and healing treatments, yoga and meditation, and beauty and salon services — based on Mabin with a presence on Dheru, using natural, organic skincare throughout.
