Why I recommend it

Why we recommend it

Santa Claus Holiday Village is the anchor family property in our Lapland portfolio — it sits literally inside Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle, so the single most requested Lapland experience (meeting Santa) is a short walk, not a day-trip. At 171 apartments it’s larger and more practical than our design-led glass-igloo properties, and every single unit — cottage or suite — has its own private sauna, which not every Lapland property can say. It’s a genuinely different pitch from Kakslauttanen or Northern Lights Village: this is the “easy basecamp for a family with young kids” property in our range, not the “one glass-domed night to remember” property — and it’s booked through Rovaniemi Insider, our specialist Lapland DMC partner: an established, on-the-ground relationship we lean on for smooth bookings and genuine local support at this property.

Santa Claus Holiday Village — the village

The honest fit

Santa Claus Holiday Village is the easy family basecamp of our Lapland range — 171 self-contained, apartment-style cottages and suites sitting literally inside Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle, minutes from Rovaniemi Airport, with a private sauna in every single unit and breakfast, linen and final cleaning included across every category. The most-requested Lapland moment — meeting Santa — is a short walk, not a day trip, and the resort’s own Christmas House Safaris run the huskies, reindeer, snowmobiles and aurora hunts from its private activity area. We book it through our specialist Lapland partner, Rovaniemi Insider — transparently a DMC relationship rather than a Mykish direct contract — which carries a genuine perk: free thermal clothing hire once you have three or more stays or trips booked through Mykish. Take it on its own terms: one category (the Glass Igloo Cottage) has the full glass dome, aurora viewing runs as a paid excursion whose sightings can never be guaranteed, and the Glass Igloo Dining venue takes reservations October–March with the rest of the dining café-style and à la carte. Couples chasing every night under glass or a direct-contract property are exactly who we’d steer to Kakslauttanen or Northern Lights Village instead — that’s what the rest of the portfolio is for.

Experiences & wellness

Christmas House Safaris (the resort’s own activity desk): reindeer sleigh rides, husky sled tours (including self-drive options), Northern Lights evening excursions (three seasonal windows, sightings not guaranteed), ice fishing, snowmobiling, private Santa forest cabin meetings, and a combined “Family Fun Day” package. Day trips to Ranua Wildlife Park are also offered.

Summer (April-September): a lighter program — cycling routes, nature/forest/river exploration, Midnight Sun viewing. Genuinely optional context for a winter-first property; not the primary draw.

Not offered / not found: no dedicated spa/wellness facility.

Getting there & good to know

Getting there

  • Nearest airportRovaniemi Airport, around five minutes away per the official site.
  • Transfer costIncluded
  • RegionRovaniemi

Return transfers are included in every Mykish package. We confirm the transfer basis on your quote.

Santa Claus Holiday Village positions itself as “your Arctic basecamp” — located right inside Santa Claus Village itself, on the Arctic Circle, within walking distance of dining and activities. The official site puts Rovaniemi Airport around five minutes away. The rate includes an outdoor parking place with a car heating post, and electric-car charging is available on site. Transfer timing and AU-routing context are covered in the Australian traveller guide above.

From Australia, Santa Claus Holiday Village is a genuinely different routing proposition from our Maldives properties: there’s no single Malé-style gateway. The realistic pattern is a long-haul flight to Helsinki (HEL) via a Middle East or Asian hub, followed by a domestic connection to Rovaniemi Airport (RVN) — itself just a few minutes from the resort.

The resort states the transfer from Rovaniemi Airport takes only “a few minutes” without an exact figure — allow around 10 minutes as a guide.

Seasonality: winter activities (aurora, husky, reindeer, snowmobile, ice fishing) run November–March; a lighter cycling/nature/Midnight Sun program runs April–September. All pricing on this page and in any quote is in AUD; any currency switcher elsewhere on the site is indicative only.

Consultant tip

Consultant tip: because this property is booked via our DMC partner rather than a Mykish direct contract, enquiry-to-confirmation timing can differ slightly from our directly contracted properties — we’ll always tell you where things stand. Note also that the resort’s own Northern Lights excursion is a booking window (three seasonal start-time slots between 20 Aug 2026 and 13 Feb 2027), not a promised viewing season — set expectations with clients accordingly.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do we get to Santa Claus Holiday Village from Australia?

Fly into Helsinki (HEL) — typically via a Middle East or Asian hub — then a domestic connection to Rovaniemi Airport (RVN). This is a genuinely different routing pattern from our Maldives properties, since there's no single Malé-style gateway.

Is Santa Claus Holiday Village directly contracted with Mykish?

We book Santa Claus Holiday Village through our established local partner, Rovaniemi Insider — a specialist Lapland DMC we work with directly for this property. You get a Mykish consultant handling your enquiry and booking end-to-end, and a genuine Rovaniemi Insider partnership perk (see 'Why book with Mykish').

Does every apartment really have its own sauna?

Yes — the property states a private sauna in every one of its 171 apartments, across every cottage and suite category, per its own accommodation page.

Will we definitely see the Northern Lights if we stay here?

No one can promise that, and the property itself says so: its bookable Northern Lights excursion explicitly states sightings cannot be guaranteed, as they are a natural phenomenon. We won't publish a stated 'aurora season' for this property, because it doesn't publish one itself — its excursion product's date range is a booking window, not a promised viewing season.

Is this resort good for families?

Genuinely, yes — it's positioned by our own DMC partner as an anchor family property. The Family Suite (43m², sleeps 5) is the largest unit at the resort, there's a dedicated Family Fun Day activity package, and the private Santa forest cabin meeting is a distinctive family drawcard other Lapland properties in our portfolio don't offer in the same form.

What's included in our room rate?

Breakfast, towels, bed linen and final cleaning are included across every accommodation category, per the official site. Activities (reindeer, husky, snowmobile, ice fishing, aurora excursions, Santa's forest cabin) are separately priced add-ons, not bundled into the room rate.

What's the difference between the Glass Igloo Cottage and the other cottages/suites?

The Glass Igloo Cottage (46m², sleeps 4) is the one full glass-domed unit, built for aurora viewing from bed. Every other category — the Cottages family (Classic Cottage Twin/Double, Superior A/B, Superior Plus) and the Suites family (Classic, Jensen, Tempur, Vispring, Family) — is a standard-roofed, self-contained apartment-style unit, all with the same private en-suite sauna.

Why book Santa Claus Holiday Village through Mykish instead of directly?

We book this property through our established Lapland partner, Rovaniemi Insider — the specialist DMC we work with directly for Santa Claus Holiday Village. Mykish handles your enquiry and booking end-to-end, backed by on-ground support, plus a genuine Rovaniemi Insider relationship perk — free thermal clothing hire once you have three or more stays or trips booked through Mykish.
